Ethnography of Literature Workshop Colloque international

While literature has long been of interest to anthropologists and anthropology to writers and scholars of literature, particularly within American and French schools of thought, there has, as of yet, seldom been sustained dialogue between the fields. This workshop aims to explore the possibilities for such a dialogue at the frontiers of both disciplines by putting practitioners from France and the United States directly into conversation, particularly around questions of practice and method. We have invited participants currently engaged in writing projects at the interstices of these fields and working across Francophone and Anglophone traditions to share work-in-progress ; rather than formal presentations, we envision a workshop based on sharing feedback and productive discussion. Our hope is that thinking in each other’s company will help us to refine our stakes in shared (and divergent) concepts and approaches, and they various ways we each understand, engage in and critique ethnography.
 
Transatlantic Collaboration

This workshop is conceived as a springboard to establish an international network of researchers working on the relationship between ethnography and literature. It will allow us to develop and submit a proposal under the International Emerging Actions (IEA) scheme of the CNRS to provide two years of support for this collaboration going forward, and will provide for “ short-term mobility of scientists, the organization of working meetings, and the initiation of early-stage joint research works for shared scientific projects,” between France and the United States.
