This text explores the “affective turn” in literary studies, a critical movement that aims to take emotions and affects into account in the analysis of literary works, and focuses on how readers’ and characters’ emotions influence the understanding and reception of texts. In particular, this study highlights the role of the concept of empathy in understanding the effects that reading has on readers.
