Il primo numero di Donna uscì a Torino il 1° gennaio 1905 come supplemento dei quotidiani La Stampa di Torino e La Tribuna di Roma ; rivista quindicinale, poi mensile e bimestrale, ebbe vita lunga, giacché le pubblicazioni cesseranno nel 1968. Il direttore Nino G. Caimi, dichiarava nella presentazione liminare che la rivista non sarebbe stata “un giornale femminista” : Donna non diventerà in effetti mai un giornale femminista, tuttavia, tra il 1905 e il 1919, malgrado gli inserti sulla moda, l’arredamento, la cucina e l’educazione dei figli, la pubblicazione, di matrice borghese, dopo aver cercato di affermarsi come spazio aperto alle espressioni artistiche femminili, assumerà posizioni emancipazioniste che sfumeranno subito dopo la fine della guerra. L’inventario che qui proponiamo non ha la pretesa d’esser esaustivo : le collezioni possedute dalle biblioteche italiane sono lacunari e le esigue informazioni bibliografiche reperite lasciano pensare che a Donna non sia stato dedicato nessuno studio specifico
The first issue of Donna came out in Turin on January 1, 1905 as a supplement to the daily newspapers La Stampa di Torino and La Tribuna di Roma ; a fortnightly, then monthly and bimonthly magazine, it had a long life, as publication would cease in 1968. The editor, Nino G. Caimi, declared in the liminal presentation that the magazine would not be “a feminist journal. ”Donna would in fact never become a feminist journal, however, between 1905 and 1919, despite inserts on fashion, furnishings, cooking and child-rearing, the publication, with a bourgeois matrix, after trying to establish itself as a space open to women’s artistic expressions, would take emancipationist positions that would fade soon after the end of the war. The inventory we propose here does not pretend to be exhaustive : the collections held by Italian libraries are lacunar and the scant bibliographic information found suggests that no specific study has been devoted to Donna.
