Le photographe Pierre Suchet mène actuellement une patiente enquête sur le cours du Furan qui prend sa source au Bessat (dans le Pilat) et rejoint la Loire à Andrézieux-Bouthéon. Suivre une rivière, c’est accepter d’être guidé par son flux, ses variations de débit et de rythme. Le photographe travaille à la chambre 4 x 5’ ; son investigation se trouve donc régie par la lenteur, les prises de vue venant ponctuer la coulée de l’eau. À cette scansion horizontale se combine une scansion verticale : les images permettent de déceler, au sein des sites, une infinité de traces d’aménagements effectués à différentes époques ; elles invitent ainsi le spectateur à remonter le cours du temps, en reconstituant les rythmes d’un apprivoisement/arraisonnement de l’eau par les hommes.
Photographer Pierre Suchet is currently conducting a patient investigation into the course of the Furan River, which originates in Le Bessat (in the Pilat region) and joins the Loire River at Andrézieux-Bouthéon. Following a river means accepting to be guided by its flow, its variations in speed and rhythm. The photographer works with a 4 x 5 camera, so his investigation is governed by slowness, with shots punctuating the flow of the water. This horizontal rhythm is combined with a vertical rhythm : the images reveal an infinite number of traces of developments carried out at different times within the sites, inviting the viewer to travel back in time, reconstructing the rhythms of man’s taming/harnessing of water.
